I have been sewing this design for years, but the version I was using was complicated, and only a handful of people would have wanted to tackle it. So I drafted it again from scratch. It is much simpler now, and the only thing it really asks of you is careful cutting and the exact seam allowance.
More than a dozen garments later
Before a pattern goes out I sew it, many times. The fit was already settled before these — it had been tested on earlier garments. Everything I made this time was cut from the finished printed pattern, to see how different fabrics and different combinations behave on it.
Some of what you will see below is the dress rather than the tunic. It has the same panel front and the same pockets, and its pattern is nearly ready — I will post about it shortly.
The tutorial is not a leaflet
This is the part I would like you to look at rather than take my word for.
The tutorial runs to 73 steps, with a photograph for nearly every one. The contents page is clickable, so you can jump straight to the part you need and come back with a link in the corner of the page. Most steps carry a "Watch this step" link that opens the video at that exact moment — no scrubbing through an hour of footage to find the seam you are stuck on.
Try it first
I have put together a free sample so you can see how it all works before buying. It has the real contents page, the materials pages, the fabric guidance and the sewing tips, and a few of the steps with their video links so you can try them. The sewing of the front panel is not in it — that is in the full tutorial.
The pattern
